Chimaira - The Age Of Hell - 16.08.11

Chmaira.jpg

Capitulation is a word Chimaira are seemingly not aware of, and it's to their credit they even produced this record after being forced to replace three integral members after internal wrangles. Often accused of being nailed on the same musical page for some years, the Cleveland sextet have gone some way to ripping apart from those opinions in 2011 by constructing some of their heaviest, angriest and most accomplished material to date.

The Browning - Burn This World - 03.10.11

Browning.jpg

Enter Shikari have gone some way to explore the integration of metal and dance music with some impressive results, but unlike The Browning they've been accused of 'not being metal enough', which certainly cannot be said of their Texan contemporaries. This quartet have blatantly set out to test these genres further by combining a head-on collision of death metal and dance, blending harsh vocals, huge riffs, machine gun drums and melodic, trance-like keyboards.

Lamb Of God - Hourglass - 01.06.10

LAMB.jpg

Lamb Of God certainly know how to do it in style. To purely celebrate their career so far they’ve taken it upon themselves to unleash a triple cd box-set including a whopping forty-four tracks spanning their career, also featuring previously unreleased songs and some demo recordings which will prove intriguing for the die-hards.

Hellyeah - Stampede - 28.06.10

HELLYEAH.jpg

If you ever throw a bash, you’ll wanna wack this shit on. Every metal-head knows what Hellyeah are about by now, and they stick to their guns here – and they’re still smokin’. Ace riffs aplenty, the unmistakable blaffs of Vinnie Paul and the guttural screams of Chad Grey, and you’re pretty much made. Considering all the myriad of projects the musicians are likely involved in, it’s a joy to hear them back so soon. This is no disappointing second platter by any means, but more of a double-rich second course that just makes you grin from ear to ear. Go party.

In This Moment - A Star-Crossed Wasteland - 13.07.10

IN THIS.jpg

Lying somewhere between Arch Enemy on a camomile tea venture and a pissed-off Paramore, In This Moment may well be onto something on their third full-length. Ballsy front-woman Maria Brink seems to have all bases covered, along with her competent cohorts - and the result is rather intoxicating. Their latest full-length mixes up metalcore savagery with some quite awesome chapters of neck-hair tugging melody, and it’s infectious.

Allegaeon - Fragments Of Form And Function - 20.07.10

ALL.jpg

Yet another Metal Blade act showing a tonne of early promise from the US have done themselves some nifty favours with this full-length debut. Much like the early potential of their eponymous EP, the melodic ‘Maiden-esque twin harmonised leads push and pull against thrashy chapters of ferociously crunching licks, blisteringly fast drums, some scorching leads and barking vocals, not to mention the odd fat groove shoved in for good measure; and it’s technical as hell.

Bonded By Blood - Exiled To Earth - 16.08.10

BONDED BY BLOOD.jpg

BBB attempt to join the ranks of label mates Evile and Municipal Waste with their sophomore effort, this latest bludgeon-fest pulling you back in time to the epicentre of pure thrash, although it’s debatable as to whether you’d be kicking and screaming throughout their efforts.

Black Label Society - Order Of The Black - 16.07.10

BLS.jpg

There appears to be no stopping the blues-swilling behemoth that is BLS, and with a rare permanence Mr Wiedlandt and his cohorts return for studio album number eight, and as soon as the sleazy, slinky riffs of opener ‘Crazy Horse’ stagger in you can only sit back and admire the band’s consistence. This thirteen tracker is littered with dirty, groovy little gems, the picks being ‘Parade Of The Dead’, ‘Black Sunday’ and ‘Godspeed Hellbound’, featuring Zakk’s exemplary guitar work we all come to expect, and numerous, joyous, neck-jarring riffs.

Immolation - Majesty & Decay - 05.03.10

IMMOLATION.jpg

There seems to be no stopping Immolation; some 23 years after their inception they’re still going strong - an admirable feat by any stretch. And not since 05’s Listenable classic ‘Harnessing Ruin’ have they sounded so focussed. With possibly the best production of their career, their latest onslaught smashes the nails home in all the right spots and further staples their fearsome reputation.
