Arise And Ruin - The Final Dawn - 29.10.07
Taking their cues from fellow celebrated Canadian motley crews Despised Icon and Ion Dissonance, Arise And Ruin adopt the ‘no bullshit’ approach and are content to bludgeon everything in sight for their entire record. Without being quite as ferocious as Ion or as intense as Despised, there’s definitely something equally smart about Arise And Ruin.
Canadian vibes aside, they’re everything you’d expect from a newly signed Victory outfit with a reputation for savagery. Like a deranged Himsa on a berserker charge, and with inspiration from At The Gates, ‘The Final Dawn’ features intricate riff work, chuggs aplenty, intense drumming, and imposing berserker-barks from burly beefcake Ryan Bauchman.
‘The Final Dawn’ simply contains all the standard trimmings you would expect, and without wanting to piss on the band’s impressive fire, the only missing elements from an otherwise very accomplished piece of work would be the hooks.
