The Bulletmonks - Weapons Of Mass Destruction - 30.03.09
The Bulletmonks are quite invigorating in the sense that they bring back the grooves on their debut album from old school rock and roll and give it a modern twist. The German quartet sound like they’re having tonnes of fun in the process, too – pretty much a prerequisite for an album of this ilk.
Opener ‘No Gain Just Pain’ sets the tone right from the off, with vocalist/guitarist Tyler Voxx lending his suitably gruff voice to proceedings with peachy results. Highlights of note are the stoner-riff driven ‘Under The Black Sun’, the up-tempo stomper ‘We’re All Fucked’ and wicked album closer ‘Tentacle’, all of which feature the kind of hooky riffs which demand a replay.
Any fans of the likes of Danko Jones and Backyard Babies will dig this big time; but so will Led Zeppelin and Motorhead followers. It’s sleazy, dirty, punky mosh ‘n’ roll with attitude, a solid debut and a big kick in the arse for the genre.
