Sear Bliss - The Arcane Odyssey - 24.09.07

Hungarian black metal minions Sear Bliss return with their sixth studio album, and it’s very metal indeed. In fact, if it was any more metal than this, the band wouldn’t be able to move for the sheer weight of collective high quality steel.

But underneath the shiny outer coating lies some curious tones. The band incorporate an intriguing brass section to compliment the obligatory metal instrumentation; namely trombones, trumpets and euphoniums, not to mention violins and flutes. Just check out ‘Blood On The Milky Way’ and ‘Path To The Motherland’ for an inauguration (although if you’ve heard Turisas already, you may be getting the picture). It takes some getting used to, but when it comes to bending genre and pushing boundaries, Sear Bliss have barged right in ahead of the queue.

All things considered, ‘The Arcane Odyssey’ is an album of epic proportions and by the time you reach the triumphant end, you may find yourself feeling somewhat drained from the all-encompassing musical journey you’ve just experienced.
